Weezer Announces Gold Album With Wednesday Collaboration and August Release

Weezer has announced The Gold Album, a new self-titled release arriving August 21 on Reprise/Warner Records. The project features a duet between frontman Rivers Cuomo and Wednesday vocalist Karly Hartzman on the lead single "We Might As Well Be Strangers," marking a notable collaboration between the alt-rock veterans and the emerging indie rock band.

The 10-track album was produced by Klas Åhlund, known for his work with Robyn, and Kenneth Blume, formerly credited as Kenny Beats. Blume stated his intention to craft "the most violent Weezer album ever," deliberately avoiding click tracks and pitch correction to achieve a rawer sound. The production approach represents a departure from much of the band's recent output, with critics noting the album's potential appeal to longtime fans of their classic era material.

The collaboration marks a significant moment for the band's creative process. Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson co-wrote the foundations of a Weezer song together for the first time since their 1994 self-titled debut album, a development that underscores the album's importance to the band's internal dynamics.
