West Ham Complete £60 Million Sale of Summerville to Al-Hilal

West Ham have agreed a £60 million transfer with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal for Netherlands international Crysencio Summerville, the club announced on Tuesday. The deal comprises a guaranteed £55 million fee with a further £5 million in performance-based add-ons. Summerville will undergo a medical to complete the move, which represents a substantial financial boost for the relegated Hammers.

The Deal and Negotiations

West Ham had previously rejected a lower offer from Italian club Roma, which proposed £39 million for the 24-year-old winger. Al-Hilal's significantly higher bid was accepted swiftly, nearly doubling Roma's initial proposal. The Saudi club's late intervention on Tuesday afternoon made it an attractive proposition for West Ham, who are managing their finances following their drop to the Championship.

Roma confirmed they will not raise their offer to match Al-Hilal's terms and have already shifted focus to alternative targets, including Norwegian World Cup players Antonio Nusa and Andreas Schjelderup. Manchester United had also shown early interest in Summerville, though any potential move remained dependent on the sale of Marcus Rashford, which did not materialise.

Impact on West Ham's Summer

The Summerville sale completes a significant revenue-raising exercise for West Ham this summer. Combined with the £85 million sale of midfielder Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham last month, the club will have generated more than £150 million from player departures. Summerville becomes the third-highest sale in West Ham's history, behind Rice and Fernandes.

The club retained forward Jarrod Bowen under a restructured contract and kept manager Nuno Espirito Santo in position as they target promotion back to the Premier League. West Ham had actively sought to reduce their wage bill following relegation, and these transfers represent a clear strategy to balance the books while maintaining competitive ambitions.

Summerville's Recent Record

The Dutch winger featured 34 times for West Ham in the 2025-26 season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. He represented the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, appearing in all four matches and contributing two goals and two assists during the tournament. His performances at club and international level attracted attention from multiple Premier League sides before Al-Hilal secured his services.
