West Ham is pursuing Belgian midfielder Arne Engels from Celtic in an ongoing negotiation, with the Scottish club holding firm on a £25 million valuation. The 22-year-old has emerged as a target for multiple Premier League clubs, though Engels remains contracted to Celtic with two years remaining on his deal.

West Ham have submitted an offer to Celtic for Engels, but Celtic manager Martin O'Neill confirmed the bid falls significantly short of the club's demands. O'Neill stated during his pre-match press conference that the Hammers' proposal "doesn't remotely meet our valuation." Engels has established himself as a key performer for Celtic since joining from Augsburg in 2024, accumulating 98 appearances across all competitions for the Glasgow club.

Performance and Competition

The Belgian's attacking output has proven exceptional in Scottish football. Since his arrival, Engels has registered 38 goal involvements in Scottish Premiership matches, comprising 17 goals and 21 assists. This output ranks behind only three other players in the competition during that period: Martin Boyle, Lawrence Shankland, and Daizen Maeda. Engels has also created 140 chances across all competitions for Celtic, placing him among the league's most creative midfielders.

Interest extends beyond West Ham's corridors. Nottingham Forest submitted multiple bids worth £25 million during the February transfer window, all of which Celtic rejected. Everton has also registered interest, with manager David Moyes personally contacting O'Neill regarding the potential availability of Celtic defender Alistair Johnston, though the status of any formal bid remains unclear.
