Yankees Face Pirates in Doubleheader After Tuesday Rainout

The New York Yankees will play a split doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday after inclement weather forced the postponement of Tuesday's scheduled contest. The makeup game and regularly scheduled matchup will be held at separate times, marking the Yankees' second doubleheader in four days. Gerrit Cole will start the afternoon game against Mitch Keller, while Max Fried makes his return to the mound in the evening contest.

Doubleheader Schedule and Details

The first game is set to begin at 1:05 p.m. ET, moved 30 minutes earlier than the originally scheduled start time. The makeup contest will follow at 7:05 p.m. ET on the same day. Yankee Stadium gates will open at noon for the opener, with gates for Game 2 opening around 5:30 p.m., pending the conclusion of the first game. Both contests will be broadcast on the YES Network.

This marks the Yankees' second twin bill in a short span, following their split against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, which was also necessitated by a prior rainout. Fans holding paid tickets for the original July 21 game can use them for either contest or exchange them for tickets to another regular season game at Yankee Stadium, subject to availability.

Cole vs. Keller in Opener

Gerrit Cole, who previously played for the Pirates from 2013 to 2017 before his trade to Houston and subsequent move to New York, carries a 3-5 record with a 3.93 ERA this season. Cole has won just once since early July, losing his last two starts against Tampa Bay and Los Angeles. The right-hander will face Pittsburgh's Mitch Keller, making his first appearance since July 9. Keller, who holds a 6-7 record with a 5.14 ERA, struggled in his last outing against Atlanta, lasting only three innings while allowing three earned runs in a 10-5 loss.

Fried Returns in Nightcap

The second game features Max Fried facing Bubba Chandler. Fried is returning from the injured list for his first start since May 13, making his return a significant development for the Yankees pitching rotation. The nightcap will also feature a promotional giveaway: the first 18,000 fans in attendance will receive an Aaron Judge Harry Potter Houses Bobblehead as part of the stadium's Harry Potter Night celebration.
