Scottish midfielder Alex Lowry has completed a season-long loan move to Motherwell from English club Wycombe Wanderers. The 23-year-old, who developed through Rangers' academy system, returns to Scottish football after one year in England. Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson confirmed the signing, citing Lowry's technical ability and familiarity with domestic football as key assets for the campaign ahead.

Player Background and Career Path

Lowry progressed through Rangers' youth academy from the age of 10 and made his senior debut in January 2022 during a Scottish Cup match against Stirling Albion, scoring on his first appearance. His breakthrough continued with league action and European exposure, including a place on the bench for the 2022 Europa League final against Frankfurt. Over the course of the 2021-22 season, he established himself as a first-team prospect and netted his opening Premiership goal against Hearts.

The midfielder's development stalled during the 2022-23 campaign when injury restricted his involvement to seven senior matches, including a Champions League appearance against Ajax. Following this setback, Motherwell's new signing moved to Hearts on loan for the 2023-24 season, where he made 17 appearances and recorded one goal alongside four assists before being sidelined again by injury. He then transferred to Wycombe in January 2025, making 34 appearances for the English club before this move back north.

Manager Alfred Johansson described Lowry as a "technically gifted footballer who enjoys being on the ball and being creative," emphasizing that his previous experience in Scottish football could prove valuable.
