Aston Villa Secures Record-Breaking Visit Rwanda Sponsorship Deal Worth Up to £20 Million Annually
The arrangement represents a significant revenue boost for the Birmingham club and extends Visit Rwanda's profile among Europe's elite football clubs.

Aston Villa has secured a front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with Visit Rwanda, with club sources indicating the partnership could reach £20 million per year when bonuses are included—marking the most financially valuable sponsorship deal in the club's history. The arrangement represents a significant revenue boost for the Birmingham club and extends Visit Rwanda's profile among Europe's elite football clubs.
The Deal and Club Strategy
Francesco Calvo, Aston Villa's president of business operations since July, was tasked with acquiring a front-of-shirt sponsor following the Premier League's voluntary restrictions on betting and casino brands occupying that premium advertising space. The partnership with Visit Rwanda supersedes Betano, the previous front-of-shirt partner, in financial terms. The club's home kit was released last month without a sponsor badge while negotiations continued.
The agreement is part of a broader revenue-building strategy at Villa Park. The club is simultaneously pursuing additional commercial partnerships, including a stadium naming rights deal and a training ground sponsorship for Bodymoor Heath. Earlier in the year, Villa announced El Gouna Red Sea, an Egyptian hotel chain owned by Samih Sawiris—brother of co-owner Nassef Sawiris—as their training kit sponsor.
Visit Rwanda's Expanding Portfolio
Visit Rwanda, the national tourism board, has established itself across major European football clubs. Beyond Aston Villa, the organization currently holds partnerships with Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid. The agreement replaces its sleeve sponsorship with Arsenal, which concluded after eight years and was valued at approximately £10 million annually in its final seasons. Arsenal has since replaced Visit Rwanda with Deel, an HR company.
Visit Rwanda's expansion into premium sponsorships reflects its mission to promote the country as a travel and investment destination, though these partnerships have attracted scrutiny and accusations of sportswashing from supporters and observers concerned about governance issues.
