BBC Documentary Details Allegations of Sexual Misconduct Against Jared Leto Spanning Decades

A BBC documentary investigation has compiled accounts from ten women who describe encounters with actor and musician Jared Leto spanning from 2002 to 2016, with four of the women alleging conduct that would constitute criminal sexual offences. The 54-year-old actor has not responded to repeated attempts by the BBC to obtain his statement on the allegations.

Allegations and Accounts

The four women who characterize their encounters as involving criminal conduct describe distinct incidents. One woman alleges she experienced sexual assault in a Las Vegas motel bathroom when she was 17 years old. Another states that Leto threatened her with sexual assault after she was left alone with him in a London hotel room at age 19. A third woman describes having sexual contact with Leto in California at age 17, claiming he dismissed her concerns about the state's age of consent laws by suggesting "age is just a number" and referencing being in Europe.

A fourth woman characterizes her experience as grooming through repeated sexually explicit phone calls beginning when she was 16 years old. She reports being subsequently presented with a non-disclosure agreement to prevent her from discussing the relationship, which she refused to sign. Six additional women describe receiving sexually explicit phone calls from Leto during their teenage years, and one woman alleges that at age 14, Leto instructed a security guard to bring her backstage at a music festival following a lewd comment he made about her body. When her mother confronted him about the incident, he reportedly repeated the remark.

Corroboration and Witness Accounts

The BBC stated it corroborated multiple aspects of the women's accounts through conversations with friends and family members who were informed about the encounters at the time they occurred. In several cases, the broadcaster reviewed photographic evidence, text messages, and email correspondence that aligned with elements of the allegations. Two former crew members who worked with Leto's band Thirty Seconds to Mars for extended periods told the documentary that staff expressed discomfort regarding how Leto interacted with teenage girls, noting that young women were sometimes invited backstage to his dressing room or to locations where the band was recording.

One former crew member indicated that requests for female models to receive VIP concert tickets originated directly from Leto during arena tours in the 2010s, while another described a consistent presence of young women visiting a house where the band was working. Both men emphasized that staff members believed the age gap between Leto and the teenage girls was inappropriate.

Historical Pattern and Prior Allegations

The documentary also examines previous accusations against Leto. The BBC identified more than 120 allegations posted online concerning his behavior toward women, though many are historical and remain unverified. A Los Angeles DJ publicly alleged last year that Leto assaulted her when she was 17, which prompted additional women to come forward with similar claims. Leto issued a denial regarding allegations made in a 2025 article by U.S. publication Air Mail, in which nine women accused him of sexual impropriety.
