BBC Radio 1 has announced the departure of six presenters as part of a significant daytime schedule restructure, with social media personalities and emerging talent taking over key slots. Key Changes Across the Schedule
The reshuffled programming brings significant alterations to multiple dayparts. Danny Mylo and Rosie Madison will take over the Early Breakfast slot from 4am to 7am daily, following their successful stint on Pulse 1 in West Yorkshire and development through Radio 1's presenter training scheme. This marks the fulfilment of a childhood ambition for the presenting duo, who described their appointment as a dream realised.
In the mid-morning hours, Charlie Hedges and Jeremiah Asiamah will co-host the Live Lounge from 10:30am to 1pm on weekdays beginning in September. Asiamah's appointment represents a full-circle moment, as he was listening to the Live Lounge during his college commute in 2017. Weekend breakfast coverage shifts to a new arrangement, with Vicky Hawkesworth joined by Charley Marlowe on Friday through Sunday mornings, while Emil Franchi takes the helm of the Weekend Breakfast programme.
Departures and Tributes
McCullough, who appeared on I'm a Celebrity in 2024, acknowledged that leaving after six years was "such a hard decision," though he expressed readiness for a change. Haywood-Williams and Odoom, who spent seven years at the station and both competed on Strictly Come Dancing, reflected on their tenure with gratitude, noting the progression from late-night slots to hosting the Live Lounge as "an unforgettable experience."
New Creators and Content Expansion
The station continues its strategy of integrating digital creators into traditional radio. GK Barry, who hosts the popular podcast Saving Grace, will present a series of programmes beginning with a six-week run from 10 September at 1pm, promising her characteristic blend of music, celebrity interviews, and humour. Meanwhile, the network is launching The Official Chart: First Look, a new Sunday evening show broadcast live from Birmingham and hosted by Lauren Layfield between 4pm and 7pm, marking the first Radio 1 programme of its kind to originate from outside London.
