Brothers Kolby and Kyle Branch Face Off at College World Series

Brothers Kolby and Kyle Branch are set to compete against each other at the 2026 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, after leading Georgia and Oklahoma respectively through the NCAA tournament. The matchup marks the first time their parents have gathered all four sons together since December.

A Family Reunion 700 Miles From Home

Kolby Branch, a senior shortstop for the Georgia Bulldogs, and Kyle Branch, a sophomore second baseman for the Oklahoma Sooners, both advanced to the College World Series following dominant postseason runs. Their parents, Rusty and Kari Branch, have spent the past six months coordinating increasingly complex travel schedules across multiple states to watch their four sons compete in their respective sports.

The logistics intensified during the super regional round. Rusty and Kari Branch attended Carson Branch's state championship victory with Lovejoy High School in Texas on June 6, where he was named tournament MVP. They then traveled to Lawrence, Kansas to watch Kyle and Oklahoma defeat Kansas, before heading to Athens, Georgia to watch Kolby lead the Bulldogs past Mississippi State. The family ultimately converged in Omaha after neither having a moment to return to their Lucas, Texas home.

"We haven't all been together as a family since Christmas. There's just no time to come home," Kari Branch said, describing the reality of managing athletic commitments across four sons simultaneously.

Tournament Path and Potential Matchup

Georgia claimed the No. 3 national seed after winning its third consecutive regional hosting at home in Athens. Oklahoma advanced as a lower seed following an upset victory over No. 2 Georgia Tech. Both teams opened College World Series play with wins—Georgia defeated Texas while Oklahoma beat Alabama—setting the stage for a potential second-round meeting that would determine advancement to the bracket's final.

The siblings maintain strong mutual support despite athletic rivalry. Kyle described his relationship with Kolby as one of his favorites, emphasizing that the brothers support each other unconditionally regardless of competitive outcomes. Both players attended Lovejoy High School before diverging paths—Kolby initially committed to Baylor before transferring to Georgia as a sophomore in 2024, while Kyle committed to Oklahoma in 2025.
