Argentine tennis player Francisco Cerundolo advanced to the Queen's Club Championships semifinals after defeating British wild card Arthur Fery in a three-set encounter that included a frightening moment when Fery's backhand pass struck Cerundolo in the throat. The match ended 7-6 in the first-set tiebreak, 3-6, and 6-4 in Cerundolo's favour, propelling him into the final four at the historic grass-court venue in London.

The Incident and Recovery

The injury occurred during rallies when Fery attempted a passing shot down the line. Unable to determine Cerundolo's positioning, Fery struck the ball through the middle, connecting with his opponent's throat and forcing Cerundolo to the grass. After rising from the court, Cerundolo continued competing and ultimately secured the victory. Fery approached the net following the incident to apologise, with both players acknowledging it as an unfortunate but unintentional moment in the match.

Cerundolo's Semifinal Path

This marks Cerundolo's first appearance in a semifinal above ATP 250 level since reaching the final four at the Mutua Madrid Open on clay. He will face American Brandon Nakashima in Sunday's semifinal. Nakashima advanced by defeating top seed Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3, delivering an upset victory over the tournament favourite and securing his berth in the championship's penultimate round.
