Court Releases Video Evidence from Karmelo Anthony Murder Trial Showing Moments Before and After Fatal Stabbing

A Texas court released video and photographic evidence from the murder trial of Karmelo Anthony, 19, including footage showing him at the scene before and after fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in April. The materials became public less than two weeks after a jury convicted Anthony and sentenced him to 35 years in prison on June 9, rejecting his self-defense claim.

Evidence Released to the Public

The Collin County 296th District Court released comprehensive trial materials on Friday, including surveillance video, crime scene photographs, police body camera footage, and 911 recordings. Among the most significant evidence is enhanced security camera footage that captures Anthony before the stabbing occurs, during the violent confrontation, and as he fled the scene.

The video shows a group of people gathered under a team tent during a weather delay when a commotion erupts. Anthony is visible running out from behind the tent, then descending the bleachers and crossing the track. Another clip shows Anthony immediately after officers handcuffed him at the scene. Additional recordings capture Anthony appearing to sob as an officer approaches him and identifies him as the alleged suspect.

The Fatal Confrontation

The incident occurred on April 2025 beneath a tent at a high school track meet in Frisco when Anthony and Metcalf became involved in a confrontation. Prosecutors argued that Anthony initiated the violence and fatally stabbed Metcalf, while the defense maintained that Anthony feared for his safety and acted in self-defense. The photographic evidence released includes graphic depictions of Metcalf's fatal wound, blood-stained clothing, and the knife identified by prosecutors as the murder weapon.

The jury's conviction and subsequent rejection of Anthony's self-defense claim suggest they found the prosecution's narrative more compelling. The release of this evidence provides the public with a detailed visual record of the incident that led to the conviction of the 19-year-old defendant.
