Return to Truck Competition

Elliott's last Truck Series appearance came in February 2023 at Daytona International Speedway, where he finished 10th driving for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing. The North Wilkesboro entry represents a significant gap in his limited truck racing resume. Throughout his career, the Dawsonville driver has competed in only 18 Truck Series races, though he has produced impressive results with three victories across his limited starts.

His most extensive truck schedule occurred in 2013 when he made nine starts for Hendrick Motorsports as a developing driver. During that campaign, Elliott posted five top-five finishes and captured his first career Truck Series win at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. Three years later, he won at Martinsville Speedway after starting from the pole position and leading 92 of the race's laps.

The Kyle Busch Bounty Victory

Elliott's third and most memorable truck victory came under unusual circumstances in May 2020. Kevin Harvick announced a $50,000 bounty for any full-time Cup Series driver who could defeat Kyle Busch in a Truck Series race, with Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis matching the offer with an additional $50,000. Elliott accepted the challenge at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where he led 47 of 134 laps and defeated Busch by 0.627 seconds. The combined $100,000 bounty was subsequently donated to a COVID-19 relief fund.

Elliott's participation at North Wilkesboro continues a pattern of selective Truck Series appearances by established Cup Series drivers. The race is part of a tripleheader weekend, and Elliott's entry represents one of the few opportunities for the 2020 champion to compete outside his primary Cup Series responsibilities.
