Countryfile Presenter Adam Henson Endorses Jeremy Clarkson as Agriculture Advocate

Adam Henson, the 60-year-old presenter of BBC's Countryfile, has endorsed Jeremy Clarkson's efforts in agriculture, calling him "a great advocate" for British farming. Henson's remarks signal broad industry approval for Clarkson's approach to farm management and his role in promoting farming culture to mainstream audiences.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Henson discussed his relationship with Clarkson, the former Top Gear and Grand Tour host who acquired a 1,000-acre estate in the Cotswolds in 2008. After the farm's operator retired in 2019, Clarkson took direct control, developing it into Diddly Squat farm and branching into hospitality and retail ventures. The resulting Prime Video series, which has now completed five seasons, documents this transformation.

Henson revealed that despite meeting Clarkson only around half a dozen times, the two maintain a cordial relationship. He acknowledged observing Clarkson's genuine passion for farming through both the presenter's own voice and the team surrounding the production. Henson specifically praised the theatrical production style of Clarkson's Farm for its accessibility, noting that it has successfully introduced agriculture and farming practices to demographics previously unexposed to such content.

Expanding Agriculture's Reach

The Countryfile presenter, who has worked on BBC Radio 4's "On Your Farm" and "Farming Today" across a 25-year career, positioned Clarkson's Farm alongside his own programme and digital platforms as complementary voices in agricultural advocacy. He emphasized that any media figure capable of educating British consumers about farming and agricultural challenges contributes positively to the sector's public perception. Henson manages the Cotswold Farm Park estate with his wife, Charlie, bringing personal farming experience to his assessment.

Clarkson's ventures have expanded considerably since taking full operational control. The Farmer's Dog pub, which opened in 2024 in nearby Asthall, was acquired for approximately one million pounds. A farm shop operated by his partner, Lisa Hogan, rounds out the business portfolio. Recent episodes of the current series have documented emotional moments in farm management, including Clarkson's tears when forced to part with livestock.
