The clash at Petrolul's Ilie Oana stadium represented a dual managerial debut, with both clubs appointing Portuguese tacticians. Nuno Campos replaced Zeljko Kopic at Dinamo following the Croatian's tenure since December 2023, while Petrolul brought in Ricardo Sousa to succeed Mehmet Topal. Both coaches have professional history together, having studied for their UEFA coaching licenses simultaneously.

Campos emphasized the importance of fresh beginnings and supporter unity during his pre-match remarks. Team Bus Rebranding Misfires

Dinamo's off-field attention turned to controversy when the club unveiled its redesigned team coach ahead of the fixture. The new vehicle ditched the burgundy-tinted graphics that dominated the previous season's bus, which supporters had mocked for resembling rival Rapid's color scheme. The refreshed design returned to traditional club colors of red and white.

However, the rebranding contained a significant error: the bus displayed only 12 Romanian Cup victories in its trophy palmares, omitting Dinamo's 13th Cup success achieved in 2012 against Rapid. Club officials attributed the mistake to the designer rather than institutional oversight. The bus only arrived in the club's possession on match day, leaving no time for correction before the opening fixture.

Contrasting Squad Circumstances

The two opponents entered the season from vastly different financial positions. Petrolul faced insolvency proceedings after its preventive concordat agreement failed, leaving the club with frozen bank accounts due to tax authority claims. The financial collapse forced severe roster changes, retaining only six players from the previous campaign while recruiting 14 new signings.

Dinamo, by comparison, executed a more controlled rebuild. The club brought in eight new players alongside 15 returning squad members on loan deals. Last season, Dinamo finished fourth in the standings but missed European qualification after losing 1-2 to FCSB in a Conference League playoff, while Petrolul competed in the relegation playoff and finished twelfth with 25 points.
