A male passenger attempted to defuse the situation by speaking with Byrd, but the encounter escalated significantly. Authorities allege that Byrd removed a silver multi-tool from his pocket, extended the blade, and asked the victim whether he wanted to die while advancing toward him with the weapon in hand. The bus driver contacted law enforcement, leading to Byrd's arrest at the scene.

Byrd earned recognition as an elite receiver at Miami Central Senior High School before joining LSU, where he became a critical component of the program's success.
