Ghana's Tennis Team Competes at Billie Jean King Cup as African Women's Championships Expand
Ghana's Diamond Rackets will represent the nation at the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III in Botswana, competing against ten other African nations.

Ghana's national women's tennis team, the Diamond Rackets, will travel to Gaborone, Botswana, to participate in the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III tournament, competing against ten other African nations for promotion to the Europe/Africa Group II division in the following year.
Tournament Details and Participating Nations
The competition, recognised as the world's premier international team event in women's tennis, will bring together eleven African nations in pursuit of advancement within the continental rankings. Alongside Ghana, the participating teams include Algeria, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe. The tournament commences on 13 July in the Botswana capital.
Ghana enters the tournament as one of the unseeded teams, though the nation's tennis federation remains optimistic about the squad's prospects. Team captain Bernard Ashitey Armaah expressed confidence in the preparation efforts, noting that an intensive week-long residential training camp in Accra focused on technical development, tactical preparation, physical conditioning, mental resilience, and team bonding before departure.
Team Preparation and Leadership Statement
Captain Armaah stated that the residential training program provided extensive work on all aspects of the game without distraction, with players demonstrating exceptional commitment. The team intends to demonstrate the steady progress Ghana has made in women's tennis in recent years whilst competing with determination and pride against the continent's established tennis nations.
Ghana Tennis Federation President Isaac Aboagye Duah expressed gratitude to sponsors, the GTF Board, corporate institutions, foundations, parents, and individuals whose support enabled Ghana's participation. He acknowledged that securing sponsorship proved particularly challenging this year due to heightened corporate focus on the FIFA World Cup, in which Ghana participated, with many marketing budgets directed towards football rather than tennis.
