Harvey Bunker Completes Move to Carlisle United on Two-Year Deal

Carlisle United have secured midfielder Harvey Bunker on a two-year contract following his departure from Forest Green Rovers. The 23-year-old joins as the club's third summer signing under new head coach Rob Elliot. Bunker's arrival becomes official once his contract with Forest Green expires at the end of June.

Career Path and Playing Record

Bunker progressed through Forest Green Rovers' academy system, signing his first professional contract in July 2020 at age 17. During his time at the Gloucestershire club, he made 149 senior appearances and scored 11 goals, primarily operating as a defensive midfielder. His development included loan spells at three lower-league sides: Chippenham Town, Weymouth, and Scunthorpe United, where he gained experience outside the club environment.

The midfielder has previous exposure to higher levels of English football, having competed in both League One and League Two during his Forest Green years. Notably, Bunker scored against Carlisle in October when Forest Green suffered a 4-2 defeat at Brunton Park, demonstrating his ability to perform against his new club.

Elliot's Vision and Recruitment Strategy

Rob Elliot, who took the helm at Carlisle, expressed confidence in Bunker's potential. "Harvey is an exciting young player," Elliot stated, highlighting the midfielder's hunger to progress. "I still think the best is yet to come from him. I feel like he sets the right tone in terms of young, aggressive players who want to get better personally, and at Carlisle."

Jacob Blain, Carlisle's recruitment analyst, confirmed that Bunker was actively targeted during the summer transfer window. "Harvey was a key target for us as we entered the summer window, and we managed to act quickly to get a deal agreed despite interest from other clubs," Blain explained. The recruitment team noted Bunker's eagerness to succeed at Brunton Park and his receptiveness to Elliot's tactical plans following direct conversations with both the player and his representatives.

Bunker joins fellow midfielders Miguel Azeez and defender Archie Mair as confirmed additions to Carlisle's squad as they prepare for their league campaign.
