Jadon Sancho Trains at Non-League Club Near Manchester United's Base

Jadon Sancho is training at Flixton FC, a 10th-tier non-league club situated a short distance from Manchester United's Carrington training facility. The 26-year-old winger became a free agent after his contract with United expired, concluding a difficult spell at Old Trafford that included three consecutive loan moves.

Training at a Resurgent Club

Sancho has been using Flixton's upgraded facilities at the club's Valley Road ground, which has a 2,000-capacity stadium. In comments made during his time there, Sancho praised the pitch quality, stating the layout compares favourably to other facilities in the area. Flixton itself is preparing for its first competitive season since returning from administration in 2012, having been revived by new investment. American financier Christopher Garcia, CEO of Wilshire Quinn Capital, purchased the club in February 2025 and has funded facility improvements.

The club's history includes original construction by former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 1995. Before its revival, Valley Road had been reduced to hosting Sunday League matches and carried a £500,000 price tag on the property market. Notably, Rhodri Giggs—estranged brother of United legend Ryan Giggs and formerly assistant manager at Salford City—was appointed as assistant manager at Flixton last summer.

Next Destination Unclear

While based at Flixton to maintain fitness, Sancho is actively considering several opportunities. Qatari club Al Rayyan has expressed interest in the winger, who would join countryman Aleksandar Mitrovic at the Middle East outfit. Reports also indicate European clubs, including Italian side Roma, have previously targeted him. Sancho has indicated preference for a European move even if it requires accepting reduced wages.

Sancho's England career has been overshadowed by inconsistent form since Manchester United signed him for £73 million in 2021. He played 83 matches for the club before a public disagreement with former manager Erik ten Hag accelerated his departure. His recent three seasons on loan—at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa—saw him reach European finals with each club across different competitions, winning the Europa League with Villa but failing to replicate earlier promise.

Support from Former Teammates

Despite his struggles, Sancho has retained respect among peers. Recent social media activity showed him wearing a Portugal kit bearing Bruno Fernandes' number during training, prompting the current Manchester United captain to respond with "My brother" and a heart emoji. Marcus Rashford, his former United teammate, also showed support. Former Dortmund colleagues Marco Reus and Gregor Kobel, along with Aston Villa teammates Ian Maatsen and Morgan Rogers, similarly engaged with his posts, offering encouragement as he seeks his next club.
