John F. Kennedy International Airport's Terminal 5 has launched a series of new dining and retail destinations, marking significant progress in a $100 million terminal refresh. New Culinary Arrivals Transform the Terminal
The most recent openings showcase three distinct New York dining traditions. Eataly occupies 3,800 square feet and functions as a restaurant, wine bar, and marketplace dedicated to authentic Italian cuisine and wine. The venue's opening in June featured live performances by Metropolitan Opera artists performing works by composers Giacomo Puccini and Giuseppe Verdi, alongside Leonard Bernstein's "Maria" from West Side Story.
Nom Wah Tea Parlor, spanning 3,500 square feet, recreates a vintage dim sum experience reminiscent of the 1920s. The restaurant maintains a continuous operational history dating to 1920 in Manhattan's Chinatown and specializes in handmade dumplings and traditional dim sum dishes. The Halal Guys, which originated as a Midtown street cart, brings its signature halal chicken and gyro platters served with pita bread and a distinctive white sauce.
Broader Terminal Vision and Employee Recognition
The terminal refresh, coordinated by JetBlue, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Fraport USA, extends beyond passenger dining. The project incorporates art installations, entertainment programming, and thoughtfully designed gathering spaces intended to foster discovery and comfort. A summer employee engagement event drew approximately 2,300 Terminal 5 workers to celebrate the redevelopment progress through Caribbean catering, samples from new dining concepts, and interactive activities including games and live DJ entertainment.
According to JFK International Airport General Manager Teresa Rizzuto, the new venues align with the Port Authority's vision for modernizing the airport while providing travelers with authentic representations of New York's food culture and commercial identity.
