UFC champion Jon Jones has publicly apologized to Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton after a hunting video sparked a social media conflict between the two athletes. Hamilton blocked Jones on Instagram and called him a coward for shooting pigs from a helicopter with an AR-15 during a military training exercise. Jones acknowledged the incident in a recent interview and expressed regret over losing Hamilton as a fan and contact.

The Conflict

The dispute originated from a hunting trip Jones undertook with Army Rangers, during which he participated in aerial pig culling using AR-15 rifles. Jones posted footage of the activity on social media, stating he was proud of the experience. The meat from the killed animals was donated to underprivileged families in the community. However, Hamilton, who has maintained a vegan lifestyle since 2017 and advocates against animal cruelty, responded with a lengthy direct message to Jones condemning the hunting method.

According to Jones's account, Hamilton expressed that the activity was cowardly and that Jones was capable of better behavior. Hamilton suggested that hunting should involve fairer combat methods, such as using a bow or spear to give the animal a genuine chance to defend itself. Following this exchange, Hamilton unfollowed and blocked Jones on the platform.

Jones's Response

In remarks shared during an interview with ALF Global League, the 39-year-old fighter acknowledged the impact of Hamilton's rejection. Jones stated: "He unfollowed me and blocked me, and it sucked because I was his fan! Lewis, if you're listening, I'm sorry, man. I'm sorry." The former two-division UFC champion expressed genuine regret over the lost connection with the seven-time Formula One World Champion.

Jones noted that Hamilton's stance reflects the F1 driver's broader environmental and ethical commitments. The 41-year-old racing driver has been vocal about the carbon emissions associated with meat and dairy farming, positioning his veganism as part of a larger climate advocacy platform.

Current Status

While Jones has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts competition, his contractual status with the UFC remains unresolved, as the organization has not yet released him from his agreement. Hamilton, meanwhile, continues his pursuit of an eighth Formula One World Championship title in the current racing season.
