Josh Grisetti, a Broadway and off-Broadway performer who served as head of the musical theatre program at California State University, Fullerton, has died at 44. His colleagues Rob McClure and Sierra Boggess, both of whom worked alongside him on stage, announced his passing on social media. Grisetti had recently stepped back from directing a production of Legally Blonde at the Trentino Music Festival due to personal reasons.
Theatre Career and Recognition
Grisetti emerged as a distinctive comedic talent following his 2008 performance in the York Theatre Company's production of Enter Laughing, which earned him a Theatre World Award alongside nominations from the Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk, Lortel, and Drama League. His Broadway career included leading roles in It Shoulda Been You, where he portrayed Marty Kaufman, and Something Rotten!, in which he played Nigel Bottom both on stage and on tour. He also appeared in productions of Peter and the Starcatcher, Rent, and several other theatrical works across major venues including the Kennedy Center, Goodspeed Musicals, and Williamstown Theatre Festival.
A graduate of the Boston Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre, Grisetti earned a master's degree in Theatre Pedagogy from Loyola Marymount University. In recent years, he dedicated himself to education, serving as associate professor and head of the BFA Musical Theatre program at Cal State Fullerton while previously teaching at Loyola Marymount University and Fullerton College.
