Former TOWIE personality Megan McKenna has permanently relocated to Germany after an armed home invasion two years ago left her unable to feel safe living alone in the United Kingdom. The 33-year-old reality television star revealed the details of the traumatic incident during a recent podcast appearance, explaining that the burglary—which resulted in criminal prosecutions—forced her to abandon her life in England and join her husband, footballer Oliver Burke, abroad.

The Break-In

McKenna disclosed that the break-in occurred shortly after she and Burke returned from their honeymoon in Montenegro. Burke, a professional footballer currently signed with Union Berlin, had to return to Germany the day after their arrival in the UK, leaving McKenna alone in their home. She fell asleep around 11 p.m. and awoke to the sensation of the house shaking. Three masked intruders armed with machetes and baseball bats had begun hacking through a false wall in her dressing room with the intent to access her bedroom.

Realizing what was happening, McKenna locked herself in her bedroom but remained terrified for her dog's safety. She contacted police and was initially instructed not to engage with the intruders. However, fearing the armed men would harm her pet, she approached one of them while asking what they wanted. The man took her jewelry before the group departed. McKenna later described the incident as deliberately targeted, with the intruders clearly seeking her valuables during what she described as the longest seven minutes of her life.

Why She Remained Silent

McKenna explained in her podcast interview that she had not previously discussed the burglary publicly because criminal proceedings were ongoing and individuals had been imprisoned in connection with the crime. The legal circumstances prevented her from speaking openly about the trauma until now. The psychological impact of the invasion, combined with her husband's ongoing employment in Germany, ultimately determined her decision to leave England permanently rather than remain alone in a home where she no longer felt secure.
