Netflix Reverses Course on Beauty in Black Cancellation After Season 2 Success
Netflix has reversed a prior cancellation decision for Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black via tudum, greenlighting Season 4.

Netflix has reversed its December decision to cancel Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black after Season 3, instead ordering a fourth season via tudum announcement. The unexpected renewal follows Season 2's strong performance, which spent six weeks in the Netflix Global Top 10 and claimed the top spot across 17 countries. Perry, who created, directed, wrote and executive produced the series, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to extend the show's narrative.
The Reversal and Perry's Response
The streaming platform initially announced in December that Season 3 would serve as the final chapter for the Bellarie family's saga. Last week, via tudum, Netflix revealed the reversal. Perry stated in response: "There was so much more I wanted to explore, and I'm grateful I get to keep telling this story. To the audience that has been on this ride with us from Day 1, thank you for watching and sharing it with the world."
Season 3 Plot and Cast
The upcoming third season, which has not yet received an official release date, will follow Kimmie as she claims a position within the Bellarie family hierarchy. According to the season trailer, the stakes intensify as Kimmie fights to maintain her newfound power against mounting threats, shifting alliances, and dangerous secrets. Taylor Polidore Williams, who plays Kimmie, noted that "the hardest part of being powerful isn't gaining the power, it's keeping it."
A key development involves an unexpected partnership between Kimmie and Mallory, portrayed by Crystle Stewart. Their alliance disrupts the family's longstanding patterns of division and betrayal, fundamentally altering the power dynamics within the beauty empire. The ensemble cast includes Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, Ricco Ross, Julian Horton, Steven G. Norfleet, Richard Lawson, Terrell Carter, Bryan Tanaka, Charles Malik Whitfield and Debbi Morgan.
The Series Format
Beauty in Black follows two women whose lives become intertwined within a complex family structure. Kimmie, played by Williams, struggles financially after being rejected by her mother, while Mallory, portrayed by Stewart, operates a thriving business. The series examines blackmail, revenge, and the consequences of wealth and power within a dysfunctional dynasty that operates a cosmetics business alongside other enterprises exposed in Season 2's FBI raid finale.
