Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles matched his lifetime best of 9.79 seconds to claim victory in the men's 100 metres at the US Championships in New York. The performance, achieved with a wind reading of 0.8 metres per second, represents the world-leading time this season. Lyles defeated Ronnie Baker and Kenny Bednarek, who both crossed the line in 9.88, with Baker securing second place by just 0.005 seconds.

Lyles demonstrated exceptional form throughout the competition. In the semifinals held moments before the final, the sprinter clocked 9.76 seconds under a wind assistance of 2.1 metres per second—a mark that would have constituted a personal record had the wind reading remained legal for record-breaking purposes. Speaking after his victory, Lyles emphasised the quality of his execution. "I think that was technically the best race I had so far," he stated, noting his training regimen has yielded measurable progress. The four-time world 200-metre champion revealed he had achieved a hand-timed 9.6 seconds in training the previous week, indicating his preparation is on track for sustained performance at this level. "Seeing it once is nice to see; seeing it twice is a confidence booster. Seeing it three weeks in a row is no inconsistency," he added.

The championships produced strong performances across multiple disciplines. Sha'Carri Richardson regained her national title in the women's 100 metres with a time of 10.77 seconds, matching her seasonal best and finishing 0.13 seconds ahead of Kayle White. In the decathlon, Garrett Scantling secured victory over world bronze medallist Kyle Garland with a two-day total of 8526 points, edging Garland's 8431. Women's pole vault saw Sandi Morris record her best clearance since February 2020, winning with a first-attempt clearance at 4.90 metres.
