The puzzle presents 16 words that must be sorted into four groups of four based on thematic connections, with each correct grouping revealed in color-coded difficulty levels.

How the Game Works

Connections: Sports Edition operates on a straightforward premise: players receive a board containing 16 words and must find the single correct way to group them into four categories. Each category corresponds to a difficulty rating, indicated by color. Yellow represents the easiest category, green the second-easiest, blue the second-hardest, and purple the most challenging. Players lose if they make four incorrect guesses before solving the puzzle.

The game board refreshes daily at midnight in the player's local time zone, providing a fresh challenge each day. Unlike traditional word games, the puzzle requires both lateral thinking and knowledge of the thematic connection linking each group together.

A recent puzzle featured categories spanning multiple sports domains. One grouping included NFL teams beginning with the letter B: Bears, Bills, Broncos, and Buccaneers.
