Santa Monica Studio has officially confirmed that a new God of War title centered on Kratos will launch after God of War Laufey and directly continue the narrative established in the Laufey game. The announcement came during the God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where creative head Cory Barlog outlined the studio's vision for expanding the franchise beyond the February 16, 2027 release of Laufey on PlayStation 5.

Laufey Release and Story Expansion

God of War Laufey represents a significant departure from the established franchise formula. Rather than following Kratos, the game centers on his wife Laufey as she navigates conflict against a newly formed pantheon of gods in an afterlife setting. During the Comic-Con panel, Barlog emphasized that every element within Laufey serves a larger strategic purpose. He stated that the development team intentionally designed the game to introduce unexpected characters and expand the established world in ways that set up future installments. The gameplay segment released in June showcased Kratos and Atreus performing Faye's funeral rites—a moment that serves as a narrative bridge between the previous mainline entry and this new chapter.
