Scott Mills' Husband Posts Wedding Anniversary Tribute as BBC Stars Rally with Support

Scott Mills' husband Sam Vaughan has returned to social media with an anniversary post commemorating their two years of marriage, prompting an outpouring of support from prominent BBC figures including Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark, and Sara Cox. The Instagram message marks a significant moment for the family months after Mills' contract termination in March, which followed the emergence of historical allegations relating to serious sexual offences involving a teenager.

Vaughan, 37, shared a photograph on Instagram showing the couple holding hands at their wedding ceremony in Spain, both wearing matching tuxedos. The post garnered more than 15,000 likes and drew immediate responses from Mills' former colleagues. Ball commented with a heart emoji and the words "Love you," while Rylan Clark and Sara Cox added strings of heart emojis in the comments section. Additional messages of support came from broadcaster Bob Harris, actors Natalie Cassidy and Rob Rinder, and singer Pixie Lott.

Mills, 53, joined BBC Radio 1 in 1998 and built a three-decade career at the corporation before his recent departure. He had hosted the breakfast show on Radio 1, moved to Radio 2 in 2022, and returned to breakfast programming in January 2025 after replacing Zoe Ball. The BBC stated it "acted decisively" in terminating his contracts after receiving "new information" regarding a Metropolitan Police investigation that originally took place in 2016 and 2018. The investigation concerned allegations of sexual offences involving a teenager under 16 between 1997 and 2000. The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case at the time, determining that "the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges." However, current BBC management was reportedly unaware of the alleged victim's age when the investigation originally concluded.

Mills is believed to be pursuing legal action against the BBC for his dismissal. Since his termination, an episode of Celebrity Bake Off featuring him was withdrawn from broadcast, and his involvement with the Race Across the World podcast was also ended. Rylan Clark recently reflected on the difficulty of witnessing friends experience professional consequences, appearing on ITV's The Assembly where he acknowledged that while wrongdoing warrants accountability, contemporary culture sometimes pursues cancellation "for the sake of just doing it, because they can."
