The commitment has already driven ticket sales up 25 to 30 percent compared to the previous year, according to tournament organizers who did not expect the commitment until recent weeks.

How the Tournament Landed Golf's Elite Player

Tournament executives worked for years to secure Scheffler's participation, finally succeeding when scheduling aligned favorably. Hollis Cavner, executive director of the 3M Open, disclosed that discussions with Scheffler's representation began approximately one month before the official May announcement. The timing worked because the tournament falls immediately after the Open Championship, allowing Scheffler to compete on his return flight from Europe rather than taking a break after the major championship season.

Cavner, who oversees tournament operations through Pro Links Sports, leveraged existing relationships with Scheffler's agent Blake Smith and long-time coach Randy Smith to make the arrangement possible. "We have been talking to him about coming for years," Cavner stated, noting that the 2026 schedule finally created an opportunity. The tournament executive joked that the persistent outreach ultimately "wore [Scottie] down."

The 3M Open's five-year history includes appearances from major championship winners like Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Brooks Koepka, though most competed before reaching their peak status.
