Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts Faces Seven Felony Charges for Sexual Abuse of Teen Client

A 26-year-old behavioral health clinician employed at a Contra Costa County juvenile detention facility has been indicted on seven felony counts for engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenage boy under her clinical supervision. Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts of San Francisco was arrested in mid-July following an investigation launched by the Concord Police Department. The charges include two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts of oral copulation of a minor, sexual penetration by foreign object, and transmission of harmful material to a minor.

Details of the Investigation

Drotts worked as a behavioral health clinician at the John Davis Juvenile Detention Center in Martinez, where the alleged victim was assigned as her client. According to authorities, the sexual relationship began after the minor was released from detention and continued for approximately 3.5 months, from April through mid-July. The Probation Department supervisor initially alerted detectives to the inappropriate relationship, triggering the criminal investigation.

In addition to the sexual abuse charges, Drotts faces one count of possessing child or youth pornography. She was detained following her arrest on July 14 and subsequently referred to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office for formal charging. The identity of the teenage victim has been withheld as a matter of legal protection.

Legal Proceedings Ahead

An arraignment date in Contra Costa County Superior Court has yet to be scheduled, at which time Drotts will be formally informed of all charges against her. If she enters a not guilty plea, the case will advance to a preliminary hearing, where a judge will evaluate whether sufficient evidence exists to proceed to trial. The prosecution carries potential statutory penalties associated with each felony count.
