Starz Expands August Catalog While Power Book III Prepares Final Episodes

Starz is significantly expanding its streaming library this month with thematic content collections, while the network's flagship crime drama Power Book III: Raising Kanan approaches its series conclusion with only episodes remaining. The platform is organizing new arrivals across distinct categories, and cast members from the show have begun teasing what audiences can expect from the finale.

August Programming Expansion

The streaming service is launching multiple curated collections throughout August designed to appeal to different viewer preferences. The programming slate includes over 40 titles organized under thematic categories, each running for specified periods during the month. Collections include "Fightland: The Fight Never Ends," featuring hip-hop documentaries and crime films; "The Frat Pack – Big Laughs," focusing on comedy; and "Top Secret Missions," highlighting action and espionage thrillers. Additional themed collections cover romantic comedies and spotlight films like Boyz N The Hood at its 35-year milestone.

The expanded catalog includes established titles such as Straight Outta Compton, American Gangster, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado, and Now You See Me alongside its sequels. Comedy offerings feature Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy and its sequel, alongside Knocked Up and Nacho Libre. The romantic comedy collection spans from early August through late month and includes Silver Linings Playbook, Think Like A Man, and 50 First Dates.

Power Book III Reaches Climax

Meanwhile, the Power franchise's prequel series is moving toward its conclusion. Creator Sascha Penn addressed fans at ViewerCon, emphasizing the emotional investment audiences have maintained since the show's 2021 premiere. Penn stated that while viewers know how protagonist Kanan's story concludes, the fates of other Thomas family members remain uncertain. He characterized the final episodes as difficult and promised that all narrative questions would be answered comprehensively.

Lead actor Mekai Curtis, who portrays Kanan Stark, described his character's psychological state in the final season as one of reckoning. Curtis explained that beneath Kanan's appearance of emotional detachment lies shock at the consequences of his actions. Co-star Patina Miller, who plays mother figure Raquel "Raq" Thomas, reflected on the opportunity to explore multiple dimensions of her character throughout the series' five-season run. The show premieres new episodes Fridays at midnight on the Starz app and streaming platforms, with linear television airings at 8 p.m. ET.
