State Department Releases Trump Commemorative Passports Nationwide Following Overwhelming Demand

The U.S. State Department announced that commemorative passports featuring President Donald Trump will now be available to Americans across the country through expanded distribution channels. The agency authorized production of an additional 250,000 special editions—branded as "Patriot Passports"—after reporting overwhelming public demand for the limited-edition travel documents.

Expansion of Availability

The State Department initially began issuing the commemorative passports in early July exclusively through its Washington, D.C. passport agency. The special design displays Trump's image on the inside cover, showing him at the Resolute Desk with his signature, positioned above customized artwork created to commemorate America's 250th anniversary celebration. Due to unexpectedly high demand levels, officials determined that expanding access nationwide served the public interest.

Starting in August and September, Americans will have the opportunity to apply for the Patriot Passport through dedicated 250th Anniversary commemorative passport application events scheduled at passport agencies and centers throughout the United States. Those applying in person at the Washington, D.C. passport office can also receive the commemorative version, or alternatively select a standard large passport book that uses the existing design without Trump's image.

Application Methods and Alternatives

The State Department designed its distribution strategy to accommodate varying preferences among passport applicants. Citizens who do not wish to receive the commemorative passport retain multiple options: applying online, submitting applications by mail, visiting a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad, or using acceptance facilities such as libraries and post offices. This approach ensures that the commemorative passport remains optional rather than automatic for all applicants.

Standard passport application procedures apply for those seeking the Patriot Passport. Applicants must complete either the DS-82 or DS-11 form depending on their eligibility status. The commemorative passport carries fees that vary according to age and individual eligibility requirements, consistent with standard passport fee structures.
