The former Colorado standout, selected second overall in the 2025 draft, expressed determination to maximize his on-field impact despite coaching staff considerations regarding his workload.

Practice Performance Signals Full Recovery

Hunter appeared in 17 total snaps during team-on-team work Sunday, dividing time between 10 defensive snaps and 7 offensive snaps. Through the first week of camp, he accumulated 34 defensive snaps and 22 offensive snaps in competitive situations. The sequence highlighting his performance—an interception followed immediately by the explosive catch—demonstrated the skill set that convinced Jacksonville's front office to trade up for his selection.

Last season, Hunter played 324 offensive snaps and 162 defensive snaps across seven games before sustaining a lateral collateral ligament tear in his right knee during a late-October practice. He underwent surgery in November and has now returned to full participation. His finishing statistics from that shortened rookie season included 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown on offense, along with 15 tackles on the defensive side.

Hunter's Two-Way Ambition

When asked by NFL Network how many snaps he wanted to play weekly, Hunter stated: "All of them. I can't stay on the sideline." Quarterback Trevor Lawrence acknowledged his teammate's relentless approach, noting that Hunter would participate on every snap if permitted. Lawrence indicated the coaching staff would determine optimal usage, while emphasizing Jacksonville's depth at skill positions with receivers Brian Thomas and Jakobi Meyers, along with a versatile tight end group.

At Colorado, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy in 2024 while logging 688 defensive snaps and 672 offensive snaps in a single season, establishing his capability as a legitimate dual-threat contributor. His desire to replicate that workload at the professional level represents a departure from typical NFL specialization, where roster depth and injury prevention typically limit two-way participation.
