Venus Williams Returns to Wimbledon with Serena in Doubles Competition
Venus Williams and Serena Williams have secured a doubles wildcard for Wimbledon after four years apart.

Venus Williams and Serena Williams have been granted a doubles wildcard for Wimbledon after nearly four years without competing together on the Grand Slam circuit. The American tennis icons will compete in the women's doubles draw, though neither sister received a singles wildcard. The pair previously claimed six Wimbledon doubles titles during their playing careers.
Serena's Comeback Continues
Serena Williams, 44, has recently resumed competitive tennis after stepping back from professional play in 2022. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion made her return at Queen's Club last week, winning a doubles match alongside Victoria Mboko before the Canadian withdrew due to injury. She is currently competing in Berlin this week with world number 10 Karolina Muchova and will next appear at the All England Club.
Serena has won seven Wimbledon singles titles and six doubles championships throughout her career. Officials have not yet confirmed whether she will receive the remaining available women's singles wildcard for the tournament.
Venus Seeks Return to Form
Venus Williams, 45, has faced challenges in her singles comeback, losing all seven of her matches this season. However, the five-time Wimbledon singles champion secured a doubles victory at the Madrid Open in April alongside British player Katie Boulter. The doubles format offers a pathway for both sisters to compete meaningfully at Wimbledon.
The Williams sisters transformed professional tennis when they emerged as teenagers in the 1990s, bringing powerful athleticism and technical skill to women's competition. Their reunion in the doubles draw represents a significant moment for both players and the sport.
Additional Wildcard Decisions
Wimbledon's selection committee awarded wildcards based on past tournament performance and to generate British interest. French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska received a women's singles wildcard following her semifinal run through qualifying at Roland Garros. In the men's draw, three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who is retiring at season's end, received a wildcard alongside former semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov. British player Dan Evans, 36, was not granted a wildcard for singles in what will be his final professional tournament.
