Television presenter Vogue Williams has disclosed that she held an unfavourable initial impression of her husband Spencer Matthews, dismissing him as objectionable before they ever met, only to discover he was "nothing like" she had assumed when they appeared together on a television competition show. The 40-year-old revealed the candid admission during an episode of her podcast with her sister Amber Williams, describing how her preconceived notion was entirely shaped by his reality television persona.

From Dismissal to Connection

Williams formed her opinion of the former Made In Chelsea cast member solely from watching his on-screen behaviour, without any personal interaction. That assessment shifted dramatically when the pair were paired together on Channel 4's The Jump in 2017. She recalled her immediate reaction upon learning he would be participating: "I literally remember being like arghh." However, the actual encounter proved transformative. "I got on with him like a house on fire from the day that I met him," she explained, noting that he demonstrated qualities she had not anticipated—warmth, humour, and genuine charm.

This experience prompted Williams to reconsider her tendency to judge individuals based on limited external information. "I really shouldn't judge people that I don't know because I probably end up liking them," she reflected. The pair's chemistry developed rapidly, with romance blossoming shortly after their television meeting. They married just over a year later in June 2018.

The couple have since built a substantial family together, welcoming three children: sons Theodore and Otto and daughter Gigi. They are currently expecting their fourth child. Matthews, now 37, has undergone a significant personal transformation from his earlier reputation as a hard-partying reality television figure. He is now recognised as an ultra-endurance athlete, podcast host, and engaged father—a departure from the chaotic lifestyle image that initially informed Williams' judgment.

In previous interviews, Williams has acknowledged that her initial assessment of Matthews was even harsher than what she revealed on the podcast. She described having suspected he possessed sociopathic traits before meeting him, a conviction that dissolved immediately upon personal interaction. Despite the rapid romantic development, Williams' initial instinct upon meeting him was to consider him a potential long-term friend rather than a romantic partner, though circumstances evolved differently.
