Wizards of the Coast Launches World of Warcraft and Star Wars Dungeons & Dragons Universes
Wizards of the Coast unveiled D&D Warcraft rulebooks arriving in late 2026, allowing players to build Azeroth-based characters within official D&D mechanics.

Wizards of the Coast revealed official D&D Warcraft rulebooks launching in the fourth quarter of 2026, enabling players to recreate their World of Warcraft characters within Dungeons & Dragons mechanics. The collaboration marks the debut of "Universes Beyond," a new product line bringing licensed intellectual property into the tabletop role-playing system, with Star Wars content arriving in 2027.

The announcement came during Gen Con's keynote presentation in Indianapolis, where the D&D team detailed the scope of the World of Warcraft integration. Players will gain access to character species and classes derived from the massively multiplayer online game, compatible with the d20 system that powers standard D&D campaigns. The rulebook allows adventurers to explore familiar Azeroth zones, face legendary enemies spanning over two decades of World of Warcraft history, and engage with iconic heroes and villains translated into D&D mechanics.
Supplementary Products and Digital Integration
Accompanying the core rulebook, Wizards of the Coast will release an Icecrown Citadel Map Pack featuring poster maps and tokens usable with a digital adventure that advances characters four levels. Preorders for all World of Warcraft D&D materials are available now, with availability beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Star Wars expansion, designated for release in 2027 and taking place during "the Season of Rebellion," remains largely undisclosed pending further announcements.
Holly Longdale, executive producer and vice president of World of Warcraft at Blizzard Entertainment, emphasized the philosophical alignment between both properties. She noted that both games operate on providing players with expansive worlds and granting them creative agency over their narratives, whether through character progression, social bonds, or consequential decision-making.
Broader Wizards of the Coast Announcements
Beyond the World of Warcraft collaboration, Wizards of the Coast announced additional initiatives during Gen Con. The company introduced D&D Icons, a creative program assembling D&D talent to develop content for fan-favorite settings, with Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, Luke Gygax, and R.A. Salvatore among the participating creators. The Dark Sun setting received a revival announcement, D&D Beyond received confirmation of a new mobile experience, and a partnership program aims to bring tabletop role-playing game support to various campaign settings. The D&D actual play YouTube series "Dungeon Masters" will add Theo Solomon to its cast for Campaign 3.
