Zay Flowers Faces Touchdown Concerns Despite Pro Bowl Status and Strong Receiving Numbers

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers has established himself as a consistent, high-volume pass-catcher with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and consecutive Pro Bowl selections, yet his inability to convert red-zone opportunities into touchdowns has drawn scrutiny from fantasy football analysts. The 5-foot-9 receiver has recorded just 14 touchdown catches across his three-year career, with a season-high of five scores, prompting questions about whether offensive changes will unlock additional scoring potential.

The Red-Zone Gap

Flowers' touchdown deficit correlates directly with a lack of red-zone involvement. Last season, the Pro Bowl receiver accumulated 79 catches on 107 targets for 1,184 yards and four touchdowns outside the 20-yard line. Inside the 20-yard line, however, his production dried up significantly. Flowers was targeted just 11 times in scoring situations, converting those targets into seven catches for 27 yards and one touchdown.

The Ravens' team-wide red-zone struggles compounded Flowers' individual challenges. Fantasy football analysts have begun expressing reservations about Flowers' ceiling. One analyst noted that across the past 12 seasons, eight wide receivers with at least 26 routes per game (minimum WR3 status) caught five or fewer touchdowns in their first three seasons. None of those receivers later became consistent 8-plus touchdown producers, with only a handful achieving one spike season of 8-plus scores. The cohort averaged five touchdowns per season during their prime years, suggesting historical difficulty for receivers without early touchdown volume.

Head coach Jesse Minter addressed Flowers' touchdown prospects during practice commentary, stating that the receiver possesses the skill to thrive across all areas of the field regardless of individual circumstances. The Ravens have not yet confirmed their red-zone approach through early practice sessions, leaving Flowers' role in those situations unclear.
