Emma Raducanu has been excluded from Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup Finals squad, with Katie Boulter named to lead the team in the tournament scheduled for Shenzhen, China. The British number one's omission comes as she continues recovery from a stress fracture sustained during the grass-court season.

Squad Selection and Team Composition

Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong announced a four-player roster comprising Boulter, Harriet Dart, Mika Stojsavljevic, and Jodie Burrage. The team remains largely unchanged from the squad that defeated Australia in qualifying, with Boulter replacing Katie Swan for the finals running from September 22-27. The captain emphasised that Boulter's experience in high-pressure matches made her the natural choice to lead the squad.

Notably, Raducanu was also overlooked for the April qualifying victory against Australia despite being fit at that time, suggesting the decision reflects broader squad rotation rather than injury alone. The LTA has retained the option to add a fifth player to the roster closer to the tournament's commencement.

Raducanu's Season Disrupted by Injury

The 23-year-old has not competed since June 14, when she reached the Queen's Club final—a career-best grass-court result. A stress fracture in her lower right leg forced her withdrawal from Wimbledon and has kept her sidelined for six weeks. Her protracted absence from competitive play has significantly undermined her preparation for the international team event and raises immediate concerns about her readiness for the US Open, which begins on August 30.

Raducanu's exclusion marks a continuation of selection difficulties following last year's withdrawal from the Billie Jean King Cup team to compete in the Korea Open on the WTA Tour. In her absence last year, Great Britain reached the semi-finals before elimination by the United States.

Britain's campaign begins with a quarter-final encounter against 11-time champions Czech Republic, with Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova and runner-up Karolina Muchova leading the Czech side.
