Ford issues dual recalls affecting over 110,000 Mustang vehicles for safety defects

Windshield Wiper Recall Details

The larger of the two recalls involves 67,842 Mustang and Mustang GTD vehicles. Federal regulators identified a defect where windshield wipers may operate only at the high-speed setting under certain cold-weather conditions, while the washer system may fail to function properly. This reduced visibility issue poses an increased collision hazard, prompting the mandatory recall action.

Rear Differential Shaft Issue

The second recall targets 42,784 Mustang Mach-E vehicles equipped with rear-wheel drive drivetrains from model years 2021 through 2023. The rear differential pinion shaft may bend, fracture, or break, potentially resulting in a loss of drive power or unintended vehicle movement when parked without the parking brake engaged. Affected owners may also observe a malfunction indicator light on their instrument panel. Ford became aware of the defect following a failed rear differential shaft discovered in a European-market 2023 Mustang Mach-E in March, with subsequent warranty claims and customer reports supporting the safety concern.

Remedy and Timeline

Ford dealers will repair or replace the affected components free of charge. Interim notification letters are expected to be distributed on July 13, with additional correspondence to follow once repairs become available.
