FSU Baseball Opens NCAA Tournament as 10th Seed, Hosting Tallahassee Regional

Florida State baseball will host the Tallahassee Regional as the 10th seed in the NCAA Tournament, beginning play Friday against St. John's at 3 p.m. on the ACC Network. The Seminoles enter the postseason with a 38-17 record (19-11 in ACC play) and are starting pitcher Bryson Moore in their opening matchup. The regional also features 2nd-seeded Coastal Carolina, 3rd-seeded Northern Illinois, and 4th-seeded St. John's.

Tournament Structure and Field Composition

The Tallahassee Regional represents Florida State's third consecutive season hosting a regional, the 38th regional hosted in program history. Coastal Carolina arrives as last year's national runners-up, holding a 37-21 record with a team batting average of .269 and ERA of 5.08. Northern Illinois earned its bid by winning the MAC championship, posting a 35-17 record and making just its second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after a 44-year absence. St. John's qualified as the Big East champion with a 33-24 record, hitting .279 with a 5.37 ERA.

Florida State has a significant historical advantage over the field. The Seminoles are 13-1 all-time against Coastal Carolina in Tallahassee, including a 1-0 postseason record, and hold a 2-1 edge against St. John's dating to a series in 2016. Northern Illinois and Florida State last played in 1971, with the Seminoles winning 7-1 at home.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Florida State's path through the tournament will hinge largely on its pitching depth. Florida State has won eight consecutive home games in postseason play and swept back-to-back regionals in 2024 and 2025, providing substantial momentum entering the tournament.
