Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May Return as Cameo Guests in The Grand Tour's New Era

The original hosts of The Grand Tour will make surprise cameo appearances in the upcoming season, as the motoring series transitions to a new presenting trio. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will appear in episodes launching September 4 on Prime Video, marking their return to the format after concluding their final special in 2024. The change represents a deliberate shift toward fresh talent, with show co-creator Andy Wilman confirming the trio's involvement while emphasizing support for the new generation of hosts.

New Hosting Lineup and Production Details

The sixth season will be fronted by Francis Bourgeois, known for his trainspotter internet presence and motorsport enthusiasm, alongside James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, the creators behind the YouTube motoring channel Throttle House. The six-episode run will see the trio navigate challenging terrains and automotive challenges across three continents. Productions will include crossing the Angolan desert in track vehicles, exploring Malaysia's automotive culture and testing performance cars in California.

Clarkson has already signaled approval of the new hosts, sharing a video in which he reviews applicant CVs and stamps Bourgeois's submission as "approved," describing him as "the train man from the internet." Wilman confirmed at the Buckingham Literary Festival that the original trio will appear throughout the new season. "Our guys are in the shows doing cameos, so we're wishing them well because we do want to pass that baton on," he stated.

Expanded Celebrity Guest Appearances

Beyond the original presenters, the new season will feature Formula One legend Jenson Button in a guest segment filmed in California. Button's appearance marks a notable involvement from the racing driver, who previously critiqued the show's approach to cars during a 2016 interview, suggesting the format lacked depth compared to dedicated racing coverage. His participation in the upcoming episodes signals a reconciliation between the retired F1 star and the series format.
