Julian Schnabel's adaptation of Nick Tosches' 2002 novel 'In The Hand Of Dante' assembles an international ensemble cast including Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Martin Scorsese, and Al Pacino. The film will release theatrically on June 12 before arriving on Netflix on June 24.

Plot and Cast Structure

Oscar Isaac carries the film in a dual role, portraying both New York author Nick Tosches in the 21st century and the medieval poet Dante Alighieri in the 14th century. The narrative follows two parallel storylines: in contemporary times, Tosches becomes entangled with a mafia don who recruits him to steal Dante's handwritten manuscript of 'The Divine Comedy,' while centuries earlier, Dante himself pursues inspiration for his masterwork. Both timelines explore interconnected themes of love, beauty, and the divine.

The ensemble cast extends beyond Isaac, with roles filled by Jason Momoa, Gerard Butler, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, Gal Gadot, John Malkovich, Sabrina Impacciatore, Franco Nero, Benjamin Clementine, Paolo Bonacelli, and Louis Cancelmi. Scorsese's appearance in the film, complete with a notably distinctive beard visible in the trailer, has drawn particular attention from audiences.

Production and Release Details

Schnabel directed the film and co-wrote the adaptation alongside Louise Kugelberg. Production was handled by Jon Kilik, Francesco Melzi d'Eril, Olmo Schnabel, Gabriele Bebe Moratti, Vito Schnabel, and Schnabel himself. The project marks the filmmaker's latest effort since 2018's 'At Eternity's Gate,' which received an Academy Award nomination for its portrait of Vincent van Gogh.

Netflix acquired distribution rights earlier this year. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will screen at the Tribeca Film Festival before its wider theatrical release. Following the June 12 theatrical debut, the platform will make it available to streaming subscribers on June 24.
