Mexico and Brazil Temples Set Major Dates
The San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple will open to the public beginning September 24, 2026, with a media day and invited guest tours preceding the public viewing period. Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication ceremony on November 1, 2026. The temple will serve members across the San Luis Potosí district, with the dedicatory session broadcast to congregations in the area.
In Brazil, the Santos Temple groundbreaking has been scheduled for August 1, 2026, with Elder Ronald M. Barcellos of the Brazil Area Presidency leading the ceremony. An exterior rendering of the temple has been released to the public. These announcements were made by President Russell M. Nelson in April 2022.
Expansion in Latin America and the Southeast
Mexico represents a significant center of the faith's membership, with over 1.5 million members meeting in approximately 1,800 congregations across 27 temples operating, under construction, or announced. The San Luis Potosí project joins existing temples in major cities including Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, along with others in various stages of development.
Brazil similarly supports a large membership base, with over 1.5 million members gathering in more than 2,000 congregations and eleven dedicated temples already in operation across the country. The Santos temple will add to this existing infrastructure as the faith continues its expansion in South America.
First Upstate South Carolina Temple Confirmed
The Greenville South Carolina Temple will be constructed on an 8.8-acre site at the intersection of Independence Boulevard/Ponders Road and Roper Mountain Road. The single-story structure will occupy 18,850 square feet. This temple will be the state's second, joining the Columbia South Carolina Temple dedicated in 1999. Nearly 47,000 members of the faith live in South Carolina, meeting in approximately 90 congregations throughout the state.
The Caldwell Idaho Temple location has also been announced as part of this expansion initiative, though specific details regarding construction timelines and site specifications have not yet been disclosed.
