Saudi Arabia is constructing the Jeddah Tower in the coastal city of Jeddah, which will become the world's tallest building upon completion, exceeding the one-kilometer threshold for the first time. The structure has already climbed to 426 meters with 106 of 160 floors completed, and construction is scheduled to finish in 2028. Once operational, the tower will surpass Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which currently stands at 828 meters.

Construction Progress and Timeline

Work on the Jeddah Tower began in 2013 but faced multiple suspensions that created uncertainty around the project's viability. The situation changed significantly when construction resumed in full during 2025, resulting in accelerated building progress. The renewed momentum suggests the developer is committed to meeting the 2028 completion target, which would mark a major milestone in modern architecture.

Features and Design Innovation

The completed tower will encompass approximately 530,000 square meters of usable floor space and include 59 elevators to serve its 160 floors. A standout feature will be the world's highest observation deck, positioned at over 640 meters above ground level, offering panoramic views of the Red Sea. The building incorporates state-of-the-art air conditioning systems and an energy-efficient facade specifically designed to withstand the region's extreme heat. American architect Adrian Smith, who previously worked on the Burj Khalifa, contributed to the tower's design.
